STEP 8

Implement
Basic Security Measures

Things to Know:

  • Use strong passwords and two-factor authentication
  • Keep WordPress, themes, and plugins updated
  • Install a security plugin
  • Watch out for: Neglecting regular updates and backups

Security Plugin

A security plugin is crucial for any WordPress website. It acts as a vital defense mechanism against an array of cyber threats, including malware, brute-force attacks, and unauthorized access attempts. By implementing features like firewall protection, malware scanning, and login security measures, these plugins significantly reduce the risk of data breaches and website compromise. They also often include regular security updates, ensuring your site stays protected against emerging threats. Investing in a robust security plugin is not just an option but a necessity in today's digital landscape, where cyber attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated and frequent.

Install a Security Plugin

In the world of cyber attacks you can never have enough securtiy. There are several good free choices depending on level of security your looking for. The one I use most often is Sucuri Security. If you want more control and peace of mind you can always upgrade to the paid versions of these plugins. Below are my reccomendartions.

Stong Passwords

Creating strong passwords is essential for protecting your online accounts and personal information. Same goes for your website admin. A robust password should be lengthy, complex, and unique for each account. Aim for at least 12 characters, combining uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special symbols. Avoid using easily guessable information like birthdays, names, or common words. Instead, consider using a passphrase - a string of random words - or a password manager to generate and store complex passwords securely. Regularly updating your passwords and enabling two-factor authentication when available adds extra layers of security. Remember, a strong password is your first line of defense against unauthorized access and potential data breaches.

GoJOEDaddy Security

GoJOEDaddy hosting offers several security features to protect websites hosted on its platform. SSL Certificates: are provided free with hosting plans to encrypt data transmission. Firewall protection: To help block malicious traffic. DDoS protection: To mitigate distributed denial-of-service attacks. Malware scanning: Regular scans to detect and remove malware. Automatic backups: To help recover data in case of a security breach. Server-level security: Including physical security at data centers and regular software updates. 24/7 security monitoring: To detect and respond to potential threats quickly. Two-factor authentication: For account login security.

Remember that while hosting providers offer baseline security, website owners are still responsible for many aspects of their site's security, such as keeping WordPress and plugins updated, using strong passwords, and following best security practices.
